OPEN CALL: Reproduction

BEACON: Sacramento is excited to announce our partnership with Planned Parenthood California and a national open call for progressive, powerful artwork in the theme of reproduction. Reproductive rights is one of the seminal issues of our time, and we are looking for artists that are pushing the boundaries of what reproduction and our rights to our own bodies means in the contemporary age.

We are looking for artists who work in digital projection or can adapt their work to our projection video format: video artists, animators, photographers, projection mappers, designers, architects, visual artists and writers. Finalists will be featured in the adjacent windows of Beacon Sacramento. Each finalist will have a slot of up to 10 minutes for artwork to be displayed.

One artist will be selected as the featured artist for Reproduction week and awarded $1,000. The featured artist will have up to 45 minutes of content on a loop displayed prominently in the corner windows of the Beacon Sacramento building.

Every afternoon and evening for one week, the work of the artists will be grouped into an hour long program and projected onto the Beacon windows. The program will restart each hour, giving new viewers the chance to experience the artwork.

Each entry will be carefully evaluated by a team led by curator Jessa Ciel, MFA video artist. Beacon Sacramento is seeking work that is immersive, progressive, cutting-edge, and socially-engaged. Work by artists from underrepresented groups will be given priority. All work must be original and created by or under direction of the artist(s). Collaborations are welcome. All submissions must be for completed artworks; we are not accepting project concepts.

All entries must be received by 11:00pm on  Monday, July 17th.  We will notify all artists of their selection status by June 19th. Videos can be uploaded to Dropbox or a Vimeo link can be provided. All submissions must be 10 minutes or less and representative of the final artwork.
